A Poem For Your Enjoyment

Hey!
We were helping our mom get our portfolios ready for the end of our school- year, and we came across a poem we wrote a while back. It went like this:

" In The Woods"
Take a walk in the woods ,
With a basket of goods,
Say a little prayer,
Sniff the nice clean air,
We love the space,
Its fun to race!
We love our woods,
Its lots of fun,
To have a picnic ,
In the NICE, WARM, SUN!!
Well, hope you liked our poem!:)
Comment soon!

Mary Helen 's Short Story

Gary the Ground-hog's New Calendar

Gary sat upon his bed searching under his covers.
"Oh, what shall I do!?" He mumbled to himself. Gary had lost his calendar that morning, and it was only 3 weeks before Ground-hog Day!

"Oh,oh,oh what shall I do!?!he kept saying.Gary continued looking for his calendar. When he did not succeed,he sat down to a SAD breakfast. What should he do now?

After breakfast, he went outside to take a walk; a very SAD walk. " Maybe I'll go get a lollipop. That will cheer me up"! On the way, he met his friend, Miss Lucy, at the "Town Square". Miss Lucy was a school teacher. "Oh, Hi Lucy" he said miserably."Hey Gary"! she said, " Beautiful morning, isn't? she added cheerfully. "Yeah, sure" he replied. "Hey Gary ,why so sad?", the teacher asked. " Well Lucy ", I lost my calendar. Now I don't know when to search for my shadow!!!!! "Oh, don't worry Gary!", said miss Lucy soothingly . "I'll show you how to know a different way!!!" "O.k. Thanks!" said Gary gratefully. "Can you show me now "? Gary asked. "Sure "Miss Lucy replied."Come over here in the sand". "Um ........O.k." he said rather confused. "Watch",she said. Miss Lucy took a stick and drew all the days of the month."Oh, so you mean DRAW a calendar in the sand , then every day cross out the day from before, just like a REAL calendar!", Gary exclaimed. And now, Gary has NO troubles at all with Groundhog Day!! He and Lucy married, and they taught ALL their kids not to bother with a calendar, but just to draw in the sand!
So, that might be why you don't see calendars in a groundhog's home. Their "SAND CALENDAR" might be hidden in a special place!!!!!!!!!!

THE END!

Hope you enjoyed this story!!!
Grace drew the picture above!
Didn't she do GREAT!?!
I Hope to write more stories some time soon!!!

BEE WISE!

This is our first time joining The Learning Center in their fun new meme!
You can join too! Click this link and follow it to their homeschooling blog!
Just look for BEE WISE in their sidebar!
BEE WISE meme invites us to share things we are learning!

GRACIE HAS BEEN LEARNING:

... about fractions!

Fractions are parts of a whole!

Like a PIE!
Cut a whole pie into pieces...that's what fractions are like!

The top number in a fraction is called the numerator!
The bottom number in a fraction is called the denominator!

If you click HERE it will show you cool things about fractions using colored circles to explain them.

Our family has 10 kids.
Six of them are girls.
So....6/10 of our family are girls!!! That's a FRACTION!

HERE'S WHAT MARY HELEN HAS BEEN LEARNING:

...how to write a short fiction story!

Every short story has these parts:

1) Characters

2) a "problem to be solved"

3) resolution: "how the problem can be solved"

4) an ending

I'm writing a short story called "Gary the Ground-hog's New Calendar"!
It's about a ground-hog who loses his calendar and meets a girl ground-hog that teaches him how to make a new calendar by drawing in the sand!

I'll post it for you when it's done!

You can have fun writing short stories! Just think up a character, give them a problem to solve, and create a way for them to solve it...don't forget to add a happy ending!!!!!

We like this new meme! Thanks Learning Center kids and Mrs. M.!!!

Three Moments Meme

Our Mom told us about this special meme !
You can do it too!
Tell 3 different hours that you would like to have been present for in Jesus"s life.
Then go to Reach Paradise to leave a link to your post.
ASK YOUR PARENTS' PERMISSION FIRST!

OUR THREE MOMENTS:

1) We would like to have been there for The Wedding at Cana.
It would have been amazing to see Jesus turn water into wine!!!

2) We would have liked to see him play as a little boy!
He would have been so cute!

3) We would liked to have been there when Mary and Joseph found Jesus in the Temple!
We would have loved to see the JOY on his parents' faces!

OUR BULLETIN BOARD

This is our bulletin board in our school.
Today, we finished (well, ALMOST finished) decorating it
for Saint Valentine's Day!

Mom uses this for handwriting practice.
She asked us each to share three ways that we can show God's love.
Then, she writes what we say, and we copy it in our best handwriting.
This is Gracie's :)

It was lots of fun making all of the hearts!
We cut and glued paper snowflakes behind the hearts
so it would look like lace!

Mom drew some angels (and Laura made one too)
for us to color and cut out :)

This is our little sister Sarah-Peanut's heart.
She was SO proud of it! It was the
first time she ever made her own snowflake!
Didn't she do a good job?

Here's the angel Laura made.
Mary Clare colored Mom's sign!

Well, that's it! We have just one more thing to add but must wait for our Dad
to bring home art paper...then we can make pink, red, and white paper
chains to hang all around the bulletin board!

We are looking forward to Saint Valentine's Day!
The next step is to make our family Valentine bags that we do each year.
We'll show you some when they are finished.
Hope you liked our bulletin board!
We enjoy decorating our classroom because it makes everything cheerful and
it makes learning FUN!
